Street Noise Studios combines the best in both digital and analog gear. We offer a selection of equipment that you will only see in "thousand dollar a day" studios, but at a fraction of what those studios charge. We provide the real deal in class A and vintage pieces that are standard in the top studios of today, not plug ins that simulate that classic tone but the actual stuff. If you had the choice of running your vocals or guitars through a real LA-2A tube compressor or the plug in version, no contest. Though we like to keep our chain as analog as possible we do record digitally because it moves sessions along much faster with less down time and with the all the right tube preamps digital can sound extremely phat. Let's face it, it's all going to end up on a digital format anyways. We choose the Alesis HD24 as our main format because of its compatability with all outboard gear and it looks like its going to be around for a long time. A short word about Pro Tools and other computer based recording setups. It doesn't sound better than any other 24 bit recording system, it is a editing program to fix your mistakes. If you can play and your songs are completed than there is very little Pro Tools can do for you. If you can't play and your tunes are in disarray 1. you can pay to watch some guy type and scroll around to try to make you sound like you don't. or 2. maybe you shouldn't be in a studio just yet.

The studio is located near HWY 101 and the San Jose airport in a 1500 square foot industrial complex. It houses 3 rooms. A 22x25 tracking room with a 15 foot ceiling, an iso booth that is 9x15 and a spacious control room measuring 20x22. One of our secret weapons is our 5x24 concrete hallway that just reverbs for days. The studio space is leased so only the control room has been dressed up a bit. To spend a lot of money and perfect acoustic tuned rooms only to loose the lease would not be real smart, so we bought a ton of gear instead. The tracking room has the feel of a big practice spot and all the bands seem real comfortable in there. Nice hardwood floors and pretty rooms tend to take bands out of their element and choke up a little. So we decided to leave it grungy.

Lastly, at Street Noise we do not have a minimum rate of hours that you have to book. Being musicians ourselves sometimes the magic just isn't there whether it be vocal tracks or guitar solos. If it ain't happening after 2 hours we'll call it a day and come up with a game plan for the next session. Now let's see a "thousand dollar a day" studio do that for you.
